Tees Dock has long been associated with the export of steel products to all parts
of the world. The undercover Steel Export Terminal is directly fed by rail and steel
products are handled within the terminal by 8 overhead gantry cranes.
Material supplied by Corus production units around the UK is shipped to the Middle
East, the US Gulf and the Great Lakes on a monthly basis. Short sea European shipments
are made several times each week.
Since 2004 large volumes of steel slab have been exported in vessels ranging from
3,000 tonnes to 55,000 tonnes.
Investment in new cranes and handling equipment have increased handling efficiencies
in anticipation of exports of this cargo rising to over 3 million tonnes p.a. by
2007.
