Environmental Management

The Tees Estuary Partnership
A vast industrial conurbation like Teesside presents special environmental challenges,
a unique partnership has proved to be the way forward.
The Tees Estuary Partnership, a mix of representatives from industry, local government,
statutory and voluntary bodies, whose aim is to put into action the Tees Estuary
Management Plan, now in its third year.
Prepared by the Industry Nature Conservation Association (INCA) on behalf of
Natural England, the plan provides a framework for optimising the estuary's resources whilst
safeguarding its special features for future generations.
PD Ports, Teesport has been a member of INCA since its inception over 10 years ago.
To its satisfaction Teesside has been the most successful of the INCA's set up by
English Nature.
Port Waste Management Plan
The plan provides for disposal of waste from sea-going vessels. Part of the plan provides
for the collection of data on vessel waste which is reported to the Marine Coastguard
Agency (MCA) who in turn pass this onto the International Maritime Organisation
(IMO).
Environmental Policy
The policy is designed to promote PD Ports, Teesport's proactive approach to environmental management.
An example of this is the Port's involvement in the implementation of new national
standards for marine pilots within the Port Marine Safety Code.
